English and Western riding lessons at Sprouse’s Corner Ranch are taught by LaRue Dowd, a Certified Level II CHA Riding Instructor. Riding lessons are taught in a safe, progressive manner in which the students feel a sense of achievement because they are able to build upon what the learned in the previous lesson. All ages are welcome, beginner through advanced, on our horse or yours. All of our lesson horses and ponies are talented, well trained and have been hand-picked for their job. Lessons include time to learn how to properly groom, tack up, warm up and cool down the horse. Boots or shoes with a heel, long pants, and ASTM/SEI approved helmets are required for riding (we have helmets available to borrow). From the trail rider to the polished horse show rider, Sprouse's Corner Ranch offers an experience tailored to your acheive your goals.

Private Lessons
Most students choose to begin riding at Sprouse’s Corner Ranch with a private lesson. Lessons are one hour, for ages 5-105. Private lessons give the instructor an opportunity to examine the student's learning style, and enables the student to begin the riding lessons with the proper riding skills and techniques. All riding lessons include learning how to groom, tack up, and care for your horse after the lesson. Private lessons allow one on one time to learn the skills and responsibility necessary to care for a horse properly. Riders will receive a record booklets and handouts from the American Association of Riding Schools (AARS) to help each student work towards receiving certificates and awards in recognition of achievements in each level. Once or twice weekly lesson packages are available.
Group Lessons
Group lessons foster camaraderie and friendship among riders with the same interests. Many riders benefit from group lesson settings as they gain confidence while riding with others. The group lessons at the Ranch are small for more focused, individualized attention. All groups are chosen based on the goals and skill levels of the individual riders. Riders will receive a record booklets and handouts from the American Association of Riding Schools (AARS) to help each student work towards receiving certificates and awards in recognition of achievements in each level. Once or twice weekly lesson packages are available.
Runt Rider Lessons
Lead-line lessons are offered for riders age 3 and four years old. These lessons allow riders to gain confidence, balance and riding skills while in a safe (and FUN!) riding environment. Students participate in learning about parts of the horse, tack and grooming equipment, while learning ABC's, colors and shapes when riding. Young riders also learn how to groom, tack up and care for their mount after riding. These lessons can be scheduled once per week, once per month, or anytime. Ten Runt Rider lessons qualify riders for a special t-shirt! Riders can also learn to prepare for the Summer
Junior Hoof Picker Camp!

We offer a program through AARS (The American Association of Riding Schools) called the Junior Riding Program. It's purpose is to introduce beginner riders to all aspects of horsemanship. We beleive in teaching students not only how to ride, but also how to be a future horse owner or caretaker. Completion of the Junior Rider Program is awarded by a series of certificates and ribbons, and riders are then eligible to begin the Senior Rider Program.
