Pegasus 4-H Horse and Pony Club

The Buckingham Pegasus 4-H Horse and Pony Club is a part of the Virginia Cooperative Extension's youth development program.  Youth work on horse related projects and learn how to work with horses safely and respectfully. All different riding styles and interests are welcome. The meetings are held once a month, usually the first Tuesday of the month.  The club is open to ages 7-19, and many of the meetings are held at Sprouse's Corner Ranch.  Membership is free, and owning a horse is not necessary to join.

Do I need to have access to a horse?

Members are not required to have a horse or have access to a horse, only a desire to learn more about horses.

What will I do as a member of Pegasus?

  • You will come to monthly meetings where you will have fun learning something about horses through a presentation by one or more club members or some other activities the leaders will plan. There will be a business part of the meeting where we will talk about upcoming activities, so bring your calendar to each meeting!

  • You will have the opportunity to participate in 4-H district events like the Horse Bowl (a competition about horse knowledge), our club community service project, district horse shows or clinics. You will have an opportunity to select a topic to learn about and then teach others in the club through a presentation or demonstration.

  • You will get to select a project book that helps you learn about horses and work on it all year.  If you have a project requiring a horse, you will also do a Horse Record Book that helps you learn about taking care of a horse.

  • You may also have the opportunity to be an officer of the club, and to participate in the State 4-H Horse Show (a three day horse show held at the Virginia Horse Center in Lexington, Virginia in September).
